BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR JOB:  As senior pastor, my work is mainly focused on four primary areas: 1) administration, 2) vision and planning, 3) teaching and preaching, and 4) pastoral care. I also have roles within the Central District of the North Alabama Conference as well as at the Methodist Foundation.

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?  I received a B.A. in Psychology at the University of South Carolina and a Master of Divinity at the Divinity School at Duke University.  Before coming to BPUMC, I was the Minister of Student Ministries and Contemporary Worship at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook, AL.  I also served as the Associate Pastor and Youth Director at First United Methodist Church in Trussville, AL.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB? I really enjoy most of the work of being a pastor. What stands out each week includes 1) preparing and delivering sermons, 2) teaching, and 3) building relationships with others in the church family (including pastoral care).

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY: I am married to Rev. Julie Holly, the Chaplain and Director of Religious Life at Birmingham-Southern College. We met at the Divinity School at Duke University in 2001 and were married in 2003. I am originally from South Carolina and Julie is from Madison, AL. We moved to Alabama in 2004 after graduating from seminary. We have two children active in our church family. Lena is in the 10th grade and Davis is in the 6th grade.

FAVORITE THING TO DO AWAY FROM WORK? I enjoy hiking, reading and researching, playing racquetball, and spending time with my family. Like a lot of other parents, I spend a lot of time driving from one event to the other!
