Discovery Weekend is almost here and we need tons of folks to make sure everything runs smoothly and our kids stay safe! The high school students will be leading everything but we need adults to be there in supporting rolls! You will need to have been a regular attendee at the church for the last 6 months and have gone through Safe Sanctuaries training. If you need those courses just email Melissa at firstname.lastname@example.org to get it done. It is all online!

Each day, we know that there are students in our community who go without their basic needs being met, which often affects their school performance and can have a lifelong impact. Room 35226 is part of our student ministry’s response to meeting these needs.
Each day, we know that there are students in our community who go without their basic needs being met. This often affects their school performance. They may be skipping meals over the weekend because there is not enough food in the kitchen at home. They might not have the school supplies they need for class. Or, it could just be that a student forgot to put on deodorant before leaving home. Whatever the case, Hoover is too caring a community to leave these student’s needs unmet. Many of us strive to help on a case-by-case basis. But what if we could do even more?
Room 35226 is part of our student ministry’s response to meeting these needs. Our vision is to have a room at every school in the 35226 zip code stocked with school supplies, toiletries, and food. Students and guidance counselors will have access to them throughout the day, for any needs that may arise. Each time a student takes something that they need, they will have the opportunity to post a note on the wall, not of what they took, but of what they plan to give back – to another student or to the community. The first room was established at Simmons Middle School and we expanded to Bluff Park Elementary. We hope to extend the Room 35226 program to the Green Valley, Gwin, and Shades Mountain Elementary Schools very soon.
You can help make Room 35226 a reality by gifting items from the list found at the bottom of this page, provided to us by guidance counselors and administrators at the school.
The resources supplied through the Room 35226 program are distributed at our community public schools. We have established resource rooms at Simmons Middle School and Bluff Park Elementary. If your child is a student at either of these schools, they can access the resource rooms during school hours. Contact the school counselor for more information. As this ministry grows we will establish resource rooms at the remaining schools in the 35226 zip code.
Click HERE to make a monetary donation online. Donations by check should be made out to BPUMC with a note at the bottom indicating “for Room 35226.”
You can drop off donated items at the Bluff Park UMC church office Mon-Fri from 8:00am-4:00pm. There is a dedicated drop-off area on the 1st floor near the Faith classroom. A list of items you can donate is included below. NO Clothing – We are no longer able to accept clothing for Room 35226. Please DO NOT drop off any clothing to the church with the exception of new underwear for boys or girls ages 4-10.
If you have questions or need to make special arrangements for your donation, contact our student ministry via email email@example.com.
*This program would not have been made possible without an initial monetary gift by Beav’s Place (www.beavsplace.com), providing financial support to Christian churches and organizations in the Birmingham area to support youth outreach ministries.
Guidance Counselors and Administrators Request These Items:
All Bluff Park United Methodist college students who would like to apply scholarships must have their forms submitted to the church office by the deadline. Contact the church office for the submission deadlines.
