SEASONAL SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Ways to Serve

Click on the options below to see some of the ways you can serve at specific times of the year.

EASTER LOVE OFFERING

During the Season of Lent, we ask for a special Easter Love Offering to support several of the mission agencies/projects that we work with throughout the year. Each of these ministries provides vital services to the communities they serve.

Our goal of $15,000 will allow us to support the following ministries. Your generosity through the Easter Love Offering enables each of them to continue to serve those in need. Our Missions Committee chose these ministries after thoughtful discussion. Criteria included their association with the United Methodist Church, ties between the selected ministry and our congregation, and BPUMC efforts to place our resources where food, water, or shelter is a part of the ministry.

  • Church of the Reconciler
  • Fairhaven – Fountain of Love
  • McCoy Adult Day Care
  • Urban Ministry

If you can help, please write “Easter Love Offering” in the “for” line of your check and place it in the offering plate or bring it by the church office. [The Easter Love Offering is sponsored by the BPUMC United Appeal Fund.]

GARDENS ON THE BLUFF

The Gardens on the Bluff Community Garden is a raised bed garden consisting of 26 beds that is open for both members and non-members.  Each of the 26 beds is rented annually.  Materials and instructions are provided.

If you are interested, please contact jan2rogers@gmail.com

The Green Team, which welcomes volunteers, tends to the gardens around the church including landscaped beds in front of the Sanctuary, Education Building, and Gymnasium, as well as the Children’s Garden.  The Green Team orders and plants seasonal color in the Fall and in the Spring.  The Children’s Garden is used to teach children about gardening and includes a summer gardening camp, special groups, and Children’s Sunday school participation.

BLANKETS FOR THE HOMELESS

The homeless are particularly vulnerable during the cold winter months. Throughout the months of October, November, and December, the church collects blankets to distribute through ministry partners in the Birmingham area once the weather turns cold.

FESTIVAL OF THE THREE KINGS

The Festival of Three Kings is an annual opportunity for us to help others experience the joy of Christmas by providing gifts to children. We have been receiving monetary donations that we have used to shop for the children. You may still help us by donating to the Festival of Three Kings through the end of the year. We plan to spend a maximum of $100 per child, but any donation amount is appreciated. Donations may be made to Bluff Park UMC, but specified for Festival of Three Kings.

WHITE CHRISTMAS OFFERING

United Methodist Children’s Home has changed their name to Embrace Alabama Kids, but their mission remains the same: heal children, unite families, and change lives in northern Alabama. Each Advent, our church takes up the ‘White Christmas Offering’ in support of this ministry. Through your support, children are placed in safe and loving foster homes and are able to continue to be cared for in college as they transition into independent adulthood. The White Christmas Offering is sponsored by the Bluff Park United Appeal Fund.
