Briefly Describe Your Job: As the Director of Adult Ministries, I coordinate activities for adults at BPUMC, ensuring that meaningful, spiritual, educational, physical, and social programming is provided throughout the year. This will include meetings, trips, social events, activities, and other initiatives that will help enrich the discipleship journeys of all adults who are a part of the BPUMC community.
What Is Your Background? I have spent the past five years working in college ministry in Oxford, MS with students from my alma mater, Ole Miss. I’ve just wrapped up my tenure as the Associate Director of the Ole Miss Wesley Foundation. Prior to this, I served at a local church in town, Oxford University United Methodist Church, as the College Ministries & Digital Outreach Coordinator. I graduated from Ole Miss in 2017 with a degree in Integrated Marketing Communications and am currently pursuing a Master of Divinity with Duke Divinity School’s hybrid program. I am originally from Jackson, MS, but went to high school in Austin, TX.
What Part of Your Job are you looking forward to most? As someone who is coming to the area from out-of-state, I am looking forward to all of the conversations and new friendships I will be pursuing to learn about the people of Bluff Park and the ways they sense God’s Spirit at work in the community. I’m a big believer that faithful ministry is rooted in healthy relationships and I am eager to begin the work of building such relationships with the people of BPUMC and other members of the community.
Tell Us About Your Family: I am the fourth of five children, who are scattered around different locations but rooted in Mississippi. My mom lives in Jackson, MS and my dad and step-mother live in Austin, TX. Most all of us are alumni and die-hard fans of Ole Miss. However, the family that you’ll get to see most is my wife, Swayze Elliott, who I recently married on June 3rd, 2023!
Favorite Thing to do Away From Work? I am a people person and enjoy sharing meals with friends at any place where good conversations can be had. Swayze and I both enjoy being outdoors for walks/hikes and are dead set on becoming a pickleball couple this year. I’m also a fan of live music, college football, all Ole Miss sports, and reading about theology and history.
